At the height of the 2020 “Black Lives Matter” movement, I became frustrated that I could not contribute by attending marches or other events due to my work schedule. Before my one day off of work, I emailed “Hotel Congress” in Tucson, Arizona and asked if they would let me donate a mural. That same night, feeling motivated to contribute to the movement through my art, I painted this image of a fierce and powerful black woman ready to take on the world during a pandemic with an army behind her. The next morning, I was invited to present my idea to management at “Hotel Congress”, got approval, and began the mural that same evening. I completed the mural by 12pm the following day, with the support of news crews filming and interviewing me and crowds of people flowing in to take pictures with this new, and rare, black representative mural. Since the completion of this mural, we as a community raised over $6000 from prints and t-shirts to donate to bail out funds and scholarships for the black community, had the mural presented on shows streamed on HULU and HBO Max, and have been published in over 10 articles including one in the NY Times.

LIVE PAINTING

SIP AND PAINT

Leading a group of strangers who have no idea what they are capable of is one of the most rewarding feelings I’ve felt. Let’s just say most people walk in saying “There’s no way I’m going to be able to paint that” and leave saying “OMG I can’t believe I painted that”.

ART FESTIVALS
